More things to do on Murano

The best places to buy Murano Glass and have a bite in between

The Glass Cathedral does not sell, it just organizes Glass Blowing Demo's and  Shows. That is nice, because you will not be bothered by sales persons. But what is the best place if you want to buy Murano Glass?

That depends on your budget and taste. The prices of Murano Glass are usually quite high, since the production process is intense and each piece is unique. Before you buy, you can read on Muranoglass.com how you can check the authenticity of Murano Glass Art.

Though completely different from each other, these 7 shops are definitely worth a visit. They are placed in an order starting at the boat stop Colonna A.

The most interesting Murano Glass Shops

Neropaco Di Cenedese Andrea, Fondamenta dei Vetrai, 58
This glass store without any pretence offers a good selection of  glassware at better prices than many other stores. Andrea and Micheala Cenedes are kind and knowledgeable.

Carlo Moretti, Fondamenta Manin, 3
The Glass Masters of Carlo Moretti combine old techniques with a modern vision on art. They are inspired by the colors and movement from the Venetian Lagoon. Each piece that comes out of their furnaces is unique. You can buy them in the shop on Fondamento dei Vetrai, 82.

Simone Cenedese, Fondamenta dei Vetrai, 68
In the atelier of this famous Glass Master you can admire the most beautiful classical and modern Murano glass chandeliers, lamps and vases.

Murano Glass Company, Calle Bressagio, 25
Here you can see how the Glass Master makes glass horses. Impressive how quickly he can make such a detailed form. The Murano Glass Company offers jewelry necklaces, bracelets, rings, sculptures and other handmade objects. Here you will be able to find a reasonably priced glass souvenir, like the small heart shaped pendants

Seguso, Campiello San Maffio, 1
This old and luxurious brand has a shop that is worthwhile to visit. The real attraction is the Seguso Experience, a private tour through the glass factory. How much this costs is not completely clear, some people talk about €250, others seem to have been the Seguso's guests for a lot lower price. You can get more information by contacting the company directly.

Can't wait until you are in Murano? You can buy beautiful Murano Glass work at some on the websites of the shops above and on  MadeMuranoGlass.com.

As mentioned earlier: a visit to the Museo del Vetro di Murano is a must see. You can buy tickets at the entrance. Opening hours: daily from 10:30 until 16:30 in winter and 18:00 in summer.

Our top 5 restaurants on Murano

VETRI Ristorante, Fondamenta Marco Giustinian, 1, T +39 041 527 5174
Restaurant in Punta Conterie a Murano, 'a fluid place in which the arts, green design and good food and wine blend harmoniously'. Creative, surprising, think of a starter like 'gelato di baccalà' or red tuna on celeriac and hazelnut butter. Nice, welcoming people and a lovely view from the terrace. Around €65 for the tasting menu.

Versus Meridianem,  Fondamenta Manin, 1, T +39 041 5275408
A tastefully decorated, trendy restaurant with well prepared traditional Italian dishes. Young, pleasant waiters. Main courses starting around €15.

B Restaurant alla Vecchia Pescheria, Campiello Pescheria, 4, T +39 041 5274957
A lovely terrace on a small squarejust off Fondamenta dei Vetrai, a comfortable dining room decorated in white, and tasteful pasta and fish dishes. A small oasis after meandering past the many glass shops. Fish dishes starting at around €20.
Busa alla Torre Da Lele, Campo Santo Stefano 3, T +39 041 739662
Busa alla Torre de Lele is worth a visit if you like to taste the lagoon specialties like moeche (soft shell crab) and granseola (spider crab). A simple, rustic restaurant, with a terrace on the Piazza next to the Campanile and the blue Glass Art of Simone Cedese. Quick and polite service.  An institution. Main courses around €15.

Osteria Acquastanca, Fondamenta Manin, 48, T +39 041 319 5125
More fancy and contemporary than the typical Italian tavern. Owner Giovanna Arcangeli is both very experienced in hospitality and an architect. She restyled an old bakery into a warm, modern restaurant. The menu is sophisticated , mainly fish and based on the ideas of 'Slow Food'.  Prices are a bit higher than average.
